Starr Nichols, who was Starr Andrews when she was at camp in the 1990's, is currently a homemaker and mother of two. Since she updated us last, Starr and her husband Jason have welcomed Kyle's little brother Aaron Riley into the world. He was born May 1, 2008. She hopes that someday both Kyle and Aaron will have the chance to attend CLC. She writes that, "I loved everything about CLC especially the many friends I made while coming here to camp. My
favorite activities were the free swim time and council fires and going to my first baseball game with my staff buddies on our day off was the best!!!" January 2010
Uhura Garcia is living in Rochester NY, working as a perioperative support worker. She writes that she has fond memories of red bug juice, mud soccer, canoe trips, change over day at the mall, rainy afternoons, counsel fire and the banquets, hymn sing, Joe on the organ, Mary Roberts at the Talent Show, being in the kitchen with Dottie and all the Garcia’s, waking Mandy up to go to flag, Natalia, Becca, Lille, Em, Benjamin, Ricky, Justin and reading the Sermon on the Mount before Vespers. Uhura has four children that she hopes will one day attend CLC. October 2009
Scott Wade recently moved to Wilmington, NC and is working in the home improvement industry. When asked about his favorite camp memories, he indicated that he enjoyed everything about camp and couldn’t possibly pick a favorite. He loved all the great friends and had endless fun camping, canoeing, fishing, sailing, horseback riding, shooting archery, and going down the zipline. “I loved it ALL!” August 2009
Philip Todd is living in the Metro Detroit Area working as an engineer. He writes that he has many favorite camp memories including the overnight hiking and camping trips and acting like Mitch from “Baywatch” running into the water during the lifeguard training course. He also remembers helping to run a great talent show where they had a phenomenal Michael Jackson dancer! August 2009
Art & Sarah (Johnson) Morath are living in Bangor, ME and just had their second child. Charlotte Emma Morath was born on July 3, 2009 and weighed in at 7 lbs. 1 oz. Big sister Sophie turned 4 in March. Congratulations! July 2009
Tina Black attended CLC in the 1990’s. She is now a day care provider living in Collegeville, PA. She also has three of her own children ages 7, 4, and 2. Her favorite camp memories include the 25-mile hike and council fires. February 2009
Chuck Ninesling was a camper and then staff member in the late 80’s and early 90’s. He lives in Farmingdale, NY and works in the music industry. His favorite camp memories include council fires, overnights, talent shows, archery, capture the flag. . . December 2008
Ginger Nelles supplied a Nelles Family update: Rex is engaged to Jenny Roemer, a staff editor for the Christian Science Sentinel. Wedding plans are underway. He is now working at The Monitor as an assistant to the Managing Publisher, Jonathan Wells.
Rebecca was invited to participate in a two-day clinic with USET member Steffen Peters, who finished 4th in the individual dressage competition in the 2008 Olympics. It was quite an experience. Additionally, Rebecca and Rytmik (a 9 year-old Swedish Warmblood mare) were Champions at the Senior B Prix St. Georges level at the Col. Bengt Ljunquist Memorial Championships, held Oct. 24-27 in Lexington, VA, and Reserve Champions at the Senior B Intermediare I level. Because Rebecca and Rytmik had the overall combined high score for those two levels they were awarded the Mary Beth McLean Memorial Perpetual Trophy.

Rose Marie (Lee) Martino was a Crystal Lake camper in several of its earliest years. As do so many, she feels that memories of her summers at CLC will always be cherished as some of the happiest times of her life. In the early 50’s she met Grant, who is now, 49 years later, her fiancé! She noted that they didn’t rush into the idea of marriage :-) Congratulations Rose Marie and Grant! August 2008
John Wilson attended CLC is the late 60’s and has lived in Charleston, SC for the last 37 years. He writes, “I just remember the weeks spent at CLC as some of the best!!” Favorite memories include, “Joe and Dottie, the blueberries, overnite hikes, Sol Choen and Brother Dave - just about everything!!” He’d love to hear from anyone who was at camp around that time. Marguerite Tyrance resides in Dedham, MA and enjoys her job in evaluations at Perkins School for the Blind. Previously, she worked at The Mother Church. While she was at CLC in the 70’s, a much younger camper named Milo gave her the nickname of “Misty”. It stuck and she still is known today as Misty to family, friends, and co-workers. May 2008
Hal Baumgardner lives in Bristow, VA and works as a manager of network operations. He’s currently restoring a 1985 BMW in rare spare moments. He has a “way too cool” son who just turned 8. Hal’s favorite camp memories include swimming and camping at Angel Falls. February 2008
Emily Imber is currently living in the Miami area and has wonderful CLC memories of the BARN and of all of her friends (including the horses!) Her big news is that she’s expecting a little one in early 2008. Congratulations, Emily! December 2007
Starr (Andrews) Nichols is living in Pringle, PA. She remembers loving everything about CLC, but especially appreciated the family atmosphere and the opportunity to make new friends. She married Jason about 3 years ago and became a new mom in March 2005. Perhaps her son Kyle will be a CLC camper soon! March 2007
Bob Hyatt moved back to PA in 2002 and is working in turf management. He writes that he started a lawn management company that has grown to be quite successful. He still enjoys horses and model railroading and recently added gardening to his list of interests. His favorite memories of camp involve the horseback riding program and the Explorers North trip he took in 1966. His daughter, Jennifer, also a CLC alum is living and working in Denver, CO. Tom Snyder is now retired and living in Austin, Texas with his very handsome seeing-eye dog, Fenwick. He recently made contact with some old camp friends who were at CLC with him in the late 50’s early 60’s. December 2006
Lane Fahnestock is serving as Reading Room manager in Mt. Lebanon, PA. He holds fond memories of CLC and “camp outs, horseback riding, swimming, blueberries, fishing, and friends.” Our thoughts and prayers are with him in the wake of the passing of his wife Laura last summer. November 2006
Bill Elliott is living in PA and working as a Customer Services Engineer. He has two young sons ages 3 yrs and 9 months. His favorite camp memories include great friends, new adventures, and learning new things. October 2006
Marette Denninger St. John is an architectural designer and musician. She writes that she has been married for 2 years and has been “the pianist at the Beverly Hills church for 8, teaching architectural design at UCLA for 5, studying and working in the architectural field for 10 and as a church designer for 5. We are almost finished remodeling our house which we closed on during the honeymoon. They say don't take on anything big the first two years. Oh, well. We enjoy visiting my sister Joy (Denninger) Long and her husband Travis Long in Monterey, CA. Joy was 3 when she first was at camp and spent a lot of time with David Manifold. Lots of love to everyone there and all my friends from my camper years!” She adds, “CLC Camp was the best time of my childhood! I loved sailing, campfires, high ropes, overnight camping trips and especially the canoe & kayak trips.” August 2006
Norman Nixon, Sr. is the Director of the Mayor's Youth Leadership Institute in Washington, DC. He has a 9 yr old son and a 7 yr old daughter and is has been a youth program director, church deacon, youth football coach, and former elected official. Many might share his comment that, “Camp was a very defining experience in my life being in a multi-cultural environment and being able to get out of the city.” His favorite camp memories are: the 5 mile hikes, sports activities, vespers, winning camp inspection, capture the flag, earning swimming certifications, Joan the nurse, and meeting Joe and Dottie Alford.” Of course, the counselors were fun, too. Lynn Snook Holbert Cirillo writes that she is a Research Director and has “one very brilliant and amazing 12 year old daughter.” Her favorite memories of camp are: Whipple Mill, Rock Run and campfires around the teepee - Go Turtle Clan! Finally getting to be in the oldest girls’ cabin. Arta. Horseback riding. The mist rising off the lake in the morning during revelry, watching incredible thunderstorms over the lake from the back porch of the lodge. Making candles. Playing the wolf in Peter and the Wolf. Piano lessons with Sol. July 2006
Hillary Brunstrum lives in Virginia and works for the National Society of Professional Engineers. She fondly remembers horseback riding in the woods. July 2006
