News - Session I, 2003

July 11, 2003

The end of first session was upon us today. Along with the sounds of camera shutters closing and bag zippers shutting, cabins clamored together to create the perfect centerpiece for their table and costumes for the entire cabin to wear to tonight's Final Banquet. Each cabin came dressed with a movie theme. Characters from movies like Lilo and Stich, Peter Pan, and the Matrix were all in attendance.

July 10th 2003

Our Illustrious LTs returned from their 20mile canoe/portage trek through the Adirondacks late this afternoon. After spending the last night of their trip at a nearby cabin and enjoying the fine grilling expertise of a most generous host, the LTs made it back to camp just in time to prepare for the first Talent Show of the summer. Skits (superheroes included) and songs (some written by our very own campers) were performed, not to mention an amazing step routine stomped out by "Nikahu and Co."

Crystal Lake is even beautiful in the rain! This morning was grey, which made for cozy quiet hour sessions in our cabins. Atira (a cabin of 12-13 yr. old girls) had a special treat this morning of a pajama breakfast with Jessica in the Director's Cabin. The rain cleared up in the afternoon and the sun came out in time for picnic supper. The buzz around camp today was the upcoming talent show - we're all excited for tomorrow evening!

All our campers marched triumphantly back to camp this afternoon from Rock Run, Birch Spring Cabin, Whipple Mill, and the other great overnight spots. Boy, did those showers feel good after a night in the woods! We had our traditional turkey dinner (with the works!) and then a group of counselors kicked off an evening of overnight skits by impersonating the head staff (Jessica, Rex, Mark Whalley, and Susan Totterdale). What a hoot!

July 7, 2003

Overnights at CLC! All cabins left today for overnight camping trips to various spots on camp property and in nearby state parks. Each group will be cooking over a campfire tonight and sleeping out under tarps. Good thing this morning's rain has cleared!

July 6, 2003

Today was another great Sunday at Crystal Lake. We had a super Sunday School session and an afternoon camp-wide counselor hunt! In the evening, we had a new twist to our typical vespers program: each cabin chose a Bible story and created a skit which they presented to the whole camp. They were fabulously imaginative.

July 5, 2003

Another great day at camp! Tonight we had cabin activities and most groups opted for an evening that included EDER'S ICE CREAM!! Today marks one week of camp! The days are packed and they fly by quickly.

July 4, 2003

July 4th is always a special day at CLC, and this year was no exception. In the morning, cabins worked together on making giant flags that represented cabin spirit and unity. They presented them in a ceremony which the LTs judged. Kiya took the BEST IN SHOW ribbon for a flag which was very artistic and showed great teamwork. The afternoon was filled with a giant capture-the-flag game and swimming at the waterfront. In the evening, the whole camp participated in a series of cooperative games and enjoyed one of the hottest bonfires CLC has ever seen. Happy 4th!

July 3, 2003

It's a warm one at CLC! Today was a perfect day for using the new waterslide on the float off the T dock. The LTs returned today from their 3-day hike of the Loyalsock Trail, where they covered the 25 miles between camp and World's End State Park. Campers enjoyed another day of regular activities today and experienced the first Council Fire of 2003. Chief Rex led the clans in games and songs at the Teepees and a group of counselors acted out the elaborate fire-lighting scene.

July 2, 2003

Tonight's testimony meeting was filled to the brim with beautiful testimonies of healing and love! After such a gratitude-rich evening, the older cabins played a little Elbow Tag as the sun set. Earlier in the day, campers attended their regular classes and had a picnic supper. Another highlight of the day: clean laundry!

July 1, 2003

Today was the second day of our regular scheduled program, and tonight the dining hall was filled with the sounds of the virginia reel and other favorites at our first barn dance of the season! Yeee haww! After an evening treat of fresh-baked cookies, each cabin went on a hayride and gazed at the amazing stars that stretch over the mountain.

June 30, 2003

Day One of scheduled camper activities! Girls and boys are experiencing newfound activities and old favorites such as archery, horseback riding, swimming, canoeing, field hockey, mountain biking, and many more.

June 29, 2003

Today was a great day for Sunday School and our activity fair, where campers get to see the whole range of activities available to them this summer. The highlight of the show was Jeff Eckert demonstrating - in a cute flowered skirt - that even boys can enjoy field hockey!

June 28, 2003
