July 25, 2003

What a beautiful day for the final day of Session 2! This morning was full of packing, making 'friendship books,' and preparing for our First Annual CLC Fun Run! Every camper completed either the 1 mile, 3 mile, or 5 mile course up the camp road this afternoon. There were some incredibly fast times, including a spectacular 33 minute 5 miler by 12 year old Yanic Gentry. Alex Tyler (a Norman camper) was the first to cross the finish line with a mile time of 6:18! Way to go everyone!! The talent show and banquet this evening were a perfect finale for a perfect session.

It was the last day of regular activities today - classes wrapped up the session with a final trail ride, a last homemade candle, one more bull's eye... Tomorrow is packing day and the awarding of Camper and Cabin Excellence Awards. It is hard to believe how the session has flown by ~ it has been full of new friends and many, many wonderful memories.

Our campers have returned! Boy, did that turkey dinner taste good after the many miles hiked over the last few days. All of our cabins had great stories from the overnights, and many campers shared testimonies of healings and protection from their trips. Everyone is tucked snugly in bed and sleeping soundly tonight!

There have been a few showers at camp throughout the day today which are surely making the overnight trips that much more fun and memorable. Our Dunwoody campers who have been camping out at Birch Spring Cabin made their way back to the soccer field for a fun game of Capture the Flag while the Kiya girls have been enjoying their stay out at Whipple Mill. Camp is quiet with everyone out on the trails. We will be ready for all of our well traveled campers to return tomorrow!

Campers took off today for extended overnights. Two groups departed for the LT trail, one hiked out from camp while the other left from World’s End. Our mighty Trailblazers left for a trip to Ohiopyle State Park for a Whitewater Rafting adventure while our horseback riders camped out in the loft of the stables and got ready for a variety of experienced trail rides. Everyone here at camp is eagerly awaiting the return of our adventurers and the stories they will bring back ready to share.

Church bells rang our Sunday morning into action. After lunch the CITs went off camp with their Director and a trained ‘repel master’ for a repelling excursion. Meanwhile, staff dressed as superheroes and cartoon characters, hid around camp grounds as campers found them to ask questions for a giant game of Clue. In the end it was revealed that Tim Holzworth (our mountain biking counselor extraordinaire who was dressed as Flash) who had taken the candy canteen. With the mystery solved, campers enjoyed the chocolate reward they worked so hard to find. The evening was topped off with a picnic supper and a lively Vesper performance.

Capture the Flag was the free period of choice today. Twenty-four kids showed up at the soccer field for this game of speed strategizing. After dinner cabins got cozy for an evening of cabin bonding. Some cabins had a home-cooked dinner and a scavenger hunt, and others had the treat of watching a movie and eating Eder’s ice cream. One group just enjoyed the rocking chairs of the lodge while they listened to music and talked together. The stars above camp were extraordinary tonight!

Crystal Lake campers and staff laughed at the brief rain showers this afternoon as they went about their regularly scheduled activities. The rain did however bring our first council fire of the session inside to the cozy warmth of the Dining Hall fireplace. The CITs helped lead the evening with games and a well rehearsed performance of the Belt Dance. Go bears, turtles, wolves, and turkeys!

Ohhhh Yeeeah! World Cup Soccer Day is here! Intense skills and spirit filled the game and soccer fields as match upon match led up to the finals between the USA and Italy. USA took it away in the final round. Go USA! Hooo-rah!

July 16, 2003

After a full day of activities, the whole camp enjoyed an evening of inspiration at the Wednesday night testimony meeting. Heidi Biever, this session’s Camp Practitioner, provided inspired readings on friendship. Cabins picked their favorite hymns for a most memorable closing hymn sing.

It was another action-packed day filled with beautiful sunshine. The day started off with a heartwarming inspirational assembly with guitar accompaniment to boot. A fifth hour free swim cooled off much of the camp before a yummy Taco dinner. Everyone raced back to their cabins after dinner to get ready for the barn dance. Everything from the Boot Scoot 'n Boogie to the Macarena were enjoyed and the Virginia Reel closed down the house. Campers are tucked snugly in their bunks and sleeping to the peaceful music of the bullfrogs.

Yipeeee! It was the first day of activities. Campers rushed off to horseback riding and swimming, pottery and field hockey and many other fun activities. Some even attended a cooking class. The evening was filled with Cabin Night cook-outs by the teepees, the waterfront and all the way out to Whipple Mill.

Sunday School discussions buzzed about camp this morning from the Dining Hall porch to the Outdoor Stage. The sunny afternoon was perfect for good spiritual discussions followed by a hilarious counselor performance of the activities to be offered this session. After the Activity Fair campers enjoyed burgers and bug juice at the picnic dinner. Beautiful singing voices of Vespers closed down the night.
